Project Description
In this project, I explored visual hierarchy through a structured, hands-on process.
I began by designing an initial hierarchy poster using a provided text without
first learning any formal typographic rules. This phase allowed me to experiment freely,
make intuitive decisions, and recognize where hierarchy succeeded or failed through
natural trial and error.
After completing the first draft, we studied the fundamental principles of typography, contrast, scale, spacing, alignment, and organization, to better understand how effective hierarchy is created. With this new knowledge, I analyzed my initial poster and identified areas for improvement based on objective typographic rules rather than instinct alone.
To apply what I learned, I then created four new poster variations that each demonstrated a different approach to hierarchy using the same given text. These final posters showcased my improved understanding of typographic structure and how different visual strategies can guide the viewer’s attention.
